Abstrakt
Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka wpływu przekształceń paramentów tekstylnych na ocenę wartości zabytku i jakości przekazu historycznego. Szaty liturgiczne zgromadzone w skarbcach i zakrystiach kościelnych obrazują różnorodne przemiany stylowe zachodzące we wzornictwie tekstylnym w ciągu wieków. Bogactwo treści uzyskanych w toku analizy kroju szat, kompozycji tkanin i motywów dekoracyjnych pozwala na odtworzenie historii mody, układu relacji społecznych czy stosunków handlowych. Zdecydowana większość tekstyliów była poddawana naprawom i przekształceniom. Stan zachowania materiału badawczego, jakim dziś dysponujemy, wynika z wielu modyfikacji i przemian w zakresie motywów dekoracyjnych, a także nawarstwień tkanin, stanowiących wynik dawnych reperacji i uzupełnień. Na wybranych przykładach szat liturgicznych ukazano zakres szkód, jakie spowodowano w wielu zabytkach tekstylnych, przedkładając utrzymanie ich funkcji użytkowej nad autentyczność formy, treści oraz wartości, których obiekt jest nośnikiem.
The goal of this paper is to characterize the impact of textile parament transformation on assessing a historic asset’s value and the quality of historic accounts. The liturgical vestments collected in church treasuries and sacristies illustrate the various stylistic transformations that have taken place in textile design over the centuries. The wealth of content obtained in the course of analyzing the cut of garments, the composition of fabrics and decorative motifs makes it possible to reconstruct the history of fashion, the system of social or commercial relations. The vast majority of textiles have been subjected to repairs and alterations. The state of preservation of the research material we have today stems from the numerous modifications and changes in decorative motifs, as well as fabric stratification, which is the result of historic repairs and restorations. Using selected examples of liturgical vestments, this paper demonstrates the extent of the damage to many textile heritage assets, putting first the maintenance of their utilitarian function over the authenticity of form, messaging and values that each object carries.
