Tereny byłej HiL to problematyczna przestrzeń o ogromnym potencjale. Kombinat metalurgiczny z pełnym, zamkniętym cyklem produkcyjnym, pomyślany jako potężny zakład rozciągający się na blisko 900 ha w Krakowie, nie przetrwał przemian politycznych, ekonomicznych i technologicznych. Obecnie stanowi przestrzeń o bardzo zróżnicowanym stopniu zagospodarowania. Jednakże nadal na jego obszarze zostały zachowane liczne obiekty o wartości zabytkowej, które powinny być objęte ochroną. Obiekty nie tylko posiadają wartości estetyczne, ale również są świadkami historii danego miejsca. Wartością obszaru, o której również rzadko się wspomina w kontekście terenów przemysłowych, jest ich uporządkowana przestrzeń, nie tylko pod kątem ciągów technologicznych, ale również estetycznym i kompozycyjnym. Są to elementy nadal czytelne w przestrzeni, a ich wykorzystanie może pomóc stworzyć przestrzeń o indywidualnych cechach, co jest szczególnie istotne w kontekście obecnych tendencji unifikacji przestrzeni przemysłowych.
The grounds of the former VLS are a problematic space with immense potential. This metallurgy plant, with a full, closed production cycle, conceived as a massive plant spread over nearly 900 ha in Cracow, did not survive the political, economic and technological changes. It is currently a space with a highly varied development. However, there are still numerous structures of historic value preserved in its area that should be protected. These structures not only have aesthetic value, but are also witnesses to this site’s history. The site’s orderly space, not only in terms of technological lines, but also its aesthetics and composition, is a value that is also rarely mentioned in the context of industrial areas. These are elements that are still legible in space, and their use can help create a space with individual characteristics, which is crucial in the context of current tendencies to unify industrial spaces.
