This paper focuses on modern non-destructive testing methods applied in the diagnostics of historical structures. The most significant feature of these methods is the absence of intervention into the object’s structure. Their purpose includes, among others, revealing the structure and assessing the quality of structural elements, identifying hidden details, defects, and damage, detecting moisture, and estimating physical and mechanical parameters. Despite significant progress in recent years, diagnosing historical structures remains a complex and time-consuming task. Utilizing the latest methods requires not only thorough knowledge of them and an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, but also extensive practical experience. This paper briefly discusses contemporary nondestructive methods used in the diagnosis of historical structures and proposes a simplified classification of these methods. Furthermore, selected problems associated with implementing non-destructive techniques are presented, with particular focus on their applications, advantages, disadvantages, and limitations.
