Abstract
This paper deals with issues of local identity as an asset in creating and revitalizing public space. The example of the rehabilitation process of Kraków’s district, Azory, was analyzed in comparison to other rehabilitation projects, mainly in housing environments across Europe. The results of series of international and local participation workshops that took place during the realization of the USER project are displayed, as well as the author’s studies. The nature and importance of the design consisting of local identity is stressed as necessary to address the process of revitalization and planning.
