Abstract
The goal of this study is to present elements of the city’s identity which are fortress gates of Kraków Fortress from the period between 1907 and 1910. In the article, the Author describes gates, fortress structures belonging to the internal ring of the city’s fortification, against the background of the development of Kraków’s urban structure. The study focuses on their remains preserved until today, as well as the entire original project that they were part of and principles of the architectural shaping of their form towards the requirements of the specific function they were to fulfil. Besides field studies, the source materials included archival design documentation, archival construction standards together with design guidelines, as well as theoretical publications form that time.
