Abstract
The cultural park is a form of area-based conservation of areas with immovable monuments that are distinctive for local construction and settlement traditions and stand out in landscape terms. Since 2003, the responsibility for establishing, managing and monitoring this form of conservation has rested with local governments. This article presents the results of a study of cultural parks that operate in Poland. The origins, purposes and time of their establishment were analyzed, as well as the types of landscapes covered by area-based conservation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the activity of local governments in the use of the cultural park as a tool for landscape conservation and the conduct of conservation and planning policies in its area. The research used a quantitative method, based mainly on analysis of data from resources of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, municipal government materials and planning documents. The urbanization indicators used were in the form of original primary analyses. The findings indicate that the cultural park, as a form of conservation, was present in every type of anthropogenic landscape, while the goals of this conservation and the scale and character of the protected space differed.
