This article was presented as part of the third edition of the International Scientific Conference European Culture Commonwealth 2024 (EuCuComm 2024) “Upper Lusatia and Silesia: cultural, religious and architectural heritage” (17–19 September 2024, in Lubań and Bautzen).
The purpose of this article is to present the shortcomings of currently used techniques for assessing the technical condition of carpentry structures and, alternatively, methods for their proper examination. A method for proper analysis and recognition of signs of deterioration in carpentry structures is presented, as well as a systematic approach to assessing the technical condition of structures through the appropriate selection of basic diagnostic techniques.
The shortcomings of the traditional approach to assessing the technical condition of structures are demonstrated, along with the resulting potential distortions that influence the conclusions drawn regarding interventions in elements of historical carpentry structures during the reinforcement stage.
