The contemporary form of historical churches is often the result of numerous transformations that have occurred since their construction. The transformations of historical structures are significant not only for uncovering their history or deepening knowledge of their architecture but also for identifying the structural systems within them. In the case of Gothic churches, changes in architecture and structure stem from various causes, such as reconstruction following war damage or fire impacts. They may also result from the enlargement of places of worship to accommodate worshippers and facilitate religious ceremonies. This paper presents which data contained in architectural research are crucial from the perspective of structural analysis and how they may influence decisions regarding repairs and strengthening. This issue is illustrated through the example of four Gothic churches that underwent transformations throughout their existence and in which cracking and deformations have been identified.
