Abstract: The article presents the genesis of the development of urban parks in Upper Silesia in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. On this basis and on the basis of analysis of the preservation status of these areas, elements of place identity were defined which are the most appropriate for application in restoration processes or remediation of these areas.

W artykule przedstawiona została geneza powstawania parków miejskich na Górnym Śląsku w XIX i na początku XX w. W oparciu o nią oraz analizę współczesnego stanu zachowania tych obszarów określone zostały elementy tożsamości miejsca, najwłaściwsze do zastosowania w procesach rewaloryzacji czy rekultywacji tych obszarów.
