Abstract: The existing trends in city development indicate that cities of the future will not be any better than those that we live in today. In order to reverse this trend, it is essential to identify the imperfections in current city development strategies and devise tactics to eliminate them. These imperfections are: increasing social and economic stratification; divergence from pure principles of sustainable development; the state of cities as money factories; the rejection of the notion of cities as being objects of beauty; ignoring citizens’ initiatives. Finally, one cannot forget about New Planning which will determine changes in urban planning. Those changes should aim at diversification of space in conformity with the growing demand for this diversity.

Istniejące dziś trendy rozwoju miast wskazują na to, że miasto przyszłości (miasto w przyszłości) nie będzie lepsze niż to, w jakim mieszkamy. Aby tak nie było, istotna jest analiza występujących dziś niedociągnięć i próba ich eliminacji. Ale zacząć trzeba od nazwania tego co jest brakiem: pogłębiające się rozwarstwienie społeczne i ekonomiczne, odchodzenie od czystych zasad równoważenia rozwoju, zamiana miasta w fabrykę pieniędzy, odrzucanie pojęcia piękna w mieście, lekceważenie inicjatyw obywatelskich. Wreszcie nie obejdzie się bez Nowego Planowania, które określi zmiany w urbanistyce zmierzające do dywersyfikacji przestrzeni w zgodzie z rosnącym zapotrzebowaniem na owo zróżnicowanie.
