Abstract: Zieleń w układach miejskich od czasów starożytnych występowała w różnorodnych formach i funkcjach, zazwyczaj zdominowanych jednak przez aspekt ozdobny. Okres rewolucji przemysłowej i związany z nią rozwój struktur urbanistycznych miast oraz pogarszające się warunki socjalno-bytowe jego mieszkańców, spowodował, iż komponowane tereny zielni, przede wszystkim publicznej, stały się koniecznością, mającą na celu zredukowanie negatywnych czynników. Obszary te miały nie tylko wprowadzić walory estetyczne i poprawę jakości krajobrazu, ale także pozytywnie wpłynąć na rozkwit życia społeczno-kulturowego.

Greenery from ancient times was found in urban structure in diverse forms and functions, usually however dominated by the aesthetic aspect. Period of the Industrial Revolution connected with development of the urban planning structure of the city and deteriorating conditions social and welfare of his residents caused, that composed green areas, above all public, became a need, which could reducing negative factors. These areas had introducing aesthetic advantages and the improvement of the quality of the landscape for setting not only, but also had a positive effect on a bloom of the social-cultural life.
