W XX wieku nastąpiła transformacja ornamentu zastępując myślenie formami dekoracyjnymi na rzecz „zabawy” materiałem oraz zwrot uwagi na indywidualizm i powtarzalność motywów. Współczesny detal jest ukryty w geometrii formy, posługuje się istotą materiału oraz jest wpisany w powłokę budynku. Wyraża emocje adekwatne do charakteru obiektu. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie znaczenia Wystaw Światowych w ewolucji ornamentu.
The 20th century begun transformation of an ornament. Decorative forms were overtaken by material „joy”, individuality and repetitive themes. Nowadays ornament is hidden in the geometry, materials and the image of the building's envelope. The basic goal of an ornament is to express emotions adequate the building's character. The article concerns the importance of World Exhibitions for an ornament evolution.
