Każdy projekt budowlany, także każda funkcja posiada już w okresie planowania pewną datę ważności, czy to z powodu przyczyn kulturowych, ekonomicznych, osiągnięć technicznych (brak „stanu rzeczy”), czy też z powodu wpływów estetycznych albo też dlatego, iż obiekty te są po prostu stare i rozpadające się.
