Abstract
It has been 10 years since the Complex of Water Reservoirs Czorsztyn-Sromowce Wyżne was built. The investment started 35 years ago. The basin was built in a place characterized by the natural and cultural features of the highest value. This part of the Dunajec Valley used to be one of the oldest communication routes in Europe. At the same time it was the basis for settlements of three neighbouring lands. The high natural values have been under protection since the Pieniny National Park was formally established. The investment: the reservoir – which occupies 11 km2 – has greatly infl uenced the local landscape and started a range of processes which are expected to keep changing the local landscape in the upcoming decades.
