Abstract
The subject of this article is the description of changes in the directions of developing public spaces in American cities, aiming at enhancing the physical activity of city residents and promoting the healthy lifestyle. The study compares the cities of the conservative territory of the southern states called the Bible Belt and Manhattan, which since its very beginnings constituted an area which was distinct in social and cultural terms. Nowadays, it is a place of transformations, which are possible mainly due to the gradual revitalization and rehabilitation of subsequent parts of the city.
