Abstract
Problemem dzisiejszych miast są zdominowane przez samochody centra miejskie. Przestrzenie zaprojektowane z myślą o pieszych stały się odcinkami dróg tranzytowych, których próba zamknięcia wywołuje strach i protesty. Ruch pieszy przeniósł się z ulic i rynków do galerii handlowych.
Obecnie można zaobserwować próby naprawy przestrzeni publicznych polskich miast i miasteczek, mające na celu przywrócenie ich pierwotnych funkcji. Często wiąże się to z ograniczeniem ruchu kołowego na rzecz pieszych. Celem artykułu jest analiza dwóch ważnych dla miasta Mielca przestrzeni miejskich, które w ostatnich kilku latach zostały przebudowane oraz konsekwencji tych zmian dla mieszkańców.
The problem of today’s cities is a car-dominated city center. Spaces primarily designed for pedestrians became fragments of transit roads and attempts at their closing arouse fear and protests. Pedestrian traffic moved from streets and squares into shopping malls.
Nowadays, we can observe attempts to reconstruct public spaces, mainly in the centers of Polish towns and cities, aiming at the restoration of their primary functions. It is very often connected with the restriction of cars in favor of pedestrians. The aim of this article is the analysis of two important public spaces in Mielec, which have been lately redeveloped, as well as the consequences of those changes for the citizens.
