Abstrakt
The railway line Tarnów–Leluchów–Orłów was opened in 1876 and was primarily of strategic importance. The tunnels situated on the line were protected at the beginning of the 20 th century by the fortified towers. The main aim of the study is to try to find out the original appearance of the fortified guard towers situated by the tunnel in the village of Kamionka Wielka (Nowy Sącz district) and the way they were functioning. The second purpose of the paper is to outline the problem of the local military architecture herit- age, which has been slowly forgotten. The author of the article uses research methods characteristic for this type of study – an inquiry, an in situ analysis, a description of the collected materials and sorting them out in accordance with criteria. A graphic material is complementary to the whole research. The source material, except for the field research, is represented by the archival documentation of the project and archival building stand- ards together with the project instructions and theoretical publications from the era. The author presents a conceptual, historical framework of the project and the realization of similar objects on the former territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Not only the resource preserved until today (2019) from Małopolska and Podkarpacie is described in the study, but also the rules for an architectural shaping of the objects’ form regard- ing a specific function they were supposed to fulfill. The author of the paper makes an attempt to analyze some aspects of different approaches to similar material and cultural heritage by professionals as well as its social, universal perception.
