Artykuł porusza problematykę zabytku architektonicznego jako nośnika pamięci oraz jego społecznej percepcji. W oparciu o badania przeprowadzone na 10 wybranych zamkach, ruinach i reliktach architektury obronnej z Wielkopolski i Kujaw przedstawiono tezę, że w szczególnych przypadkach pamięć jest czynnikiem decydującym o przetrwaniu historycznego reliktu. Proces edukowania społeczności koegzystujących z zabytkiem jest niezbędnym warunkiem utrwalania wiedzy, budowania pozytywnej reakcji emocjonalnej, kultywowania pamięci i co za tym idzie przetrwania ruin zamkowych zarówno w sferze ideowej, jak i materialnej.
The paper presents the problem of an architectural monument as a memory carrier and how it is perceived by local community. In result of the research conducted on a group of 10 medieval castles from Wielkopolska and Kujawy, the thesis that memory is crucial to the survival of a historical relic acquired its confirmation along with unexpected manifestations. The process of educating local communities is a necessary condition for the consolidation of knowledge, for the foundation of positive emotional reactions, for cultivatation of the memory and thus supporting the conditions necessary to be fulfilled if the survival of the castle ruins is going to happen. This works simultaneously in the formulation of ideology and in the material substance.
